Country Singer Chris Cagle Arrested

Chris Cagle and his girlfriend were both arrested early this morning on misdemeanor assault charges, according to published reports.

Police reportedly responded to the home Cagle shares with his girlfriend, Jennifer Tant, at about 4 a.m., after the apparently intoxicated couple got into an argument that turned physical, Nashville newspaper The Tennessean reported. Cagle told police that Tant hit him in the head with an umbrella, and Tant said Cagle had hit her with her purse, the report said.

Local law requires persons arrested on domestic assault charges to remain incarcerated for 12 hours before they can be released on $1,500 bond, a Davidson County Sheriff's Department spokesperson told the paper.

Cagle is already facing a separate misdemeanor assault charge for a December 2007 incident during which he allegedly punched a man whose girlfriend reportedly became verbally abusive to Cagle when the singer stopped signing autographs for her following a performance.
