Electronic-pop composer Dan Deacon [ tickets ] will start the new year with a North American tour that includes a screening of his new DVD collaboration with Jimmy Joe Roche.

The "Ultimate Reality" DVD "combines an intense musical composition for electronics and drums with a psychedelic montage of Arnold Schwarzenegger films that is projected at a monumental scale," according to Deacon's label, Carpark Records.

On tour, Deacon, Roche and two drummers will add a live-music element to the film, after which Deacon will play his own set of oddball party music.

The tour is scheduled to kick off Jan. 6 in Chapel Hill, NC, and visit clubs and theaters from coast to coast into February. Details are listed below.

Deacon is touring Europe through the end of the year and has plans to visit Australia and possibly Japan in February and March. Those dates can be found at Carpark's website.

Deacon, who's been labeled an absurdist, is supporting his May release, "Spiderman of the Rings." The whimsical mix of Fisher Price-sounding keyboards and munchkin-like voices prompted one reviewer to describe the album as "children's songs on amphetamines." The Baltimore-based performer is a classically trained composer with a Masters degree in electro-acoustic composition, according to his bio. He self-released seven albums from 2003 to 2006 and is currently working on his next Carpark effort, which is due next year.
