Deerhunter raises tour flag above 'Microcastle'
Art-rock darlings Deerhunter will set out on a late fall/early winter trek to back up their forthcoming third studio LP, "Microcastle."
The Georgia outfit, which has described its sound to various interviewers as "ambient punk," mounts up for the outing Oct. 31 in its hometown Atlanta. The 29-city trek will feature opening support from Ohio indie-rockers Times New Viking, along with a posse of other acts on various nights, including BARR, Knyfe Hyts and Vivian Girls. Dates are below.
"Microcastle," which hits stores Oct. 28, was recorded over the course of a week in Brooklyn, NY, according to a press release, with Nicolas Vernhes (Fischerspooner, Animal Collective) producing.
The set, which follows last year's "Cryptograms," was the band's first studio effort as a quartet, following the departure of guitarist Colin Mee. The band tapped Whitney Petty, a high school friend of singer Brandon Cox, to replace Mee following the recording of the album.
"I definitely like trying on different clothes in terms of sound," Cox told Pitchforkmedia.com last year of the new album, then in the planning stages. "I wouldn't want to repeat the next record either. I really like so many types of recording styles and so many different types of music and stuff, I think it would be a waste of time to try and find a sound and duplicate it, you know what I mean? I don't want to become a one trick band or anything like that."
