Dickey Betts & Great Southern take to the streets

Former Allman Brothers Band guitarist Dickey Betts has plotted a winter tour of the eastern portion of the US with his band, Great Southern.

The guitarist will take to the road alongside his backing band for a Dec. 4 performance in Frederick, MD. The eight-city outing concentrates on the East Coast and includes a Dec. 12 show in New York City. The group will wrap up the road trip with March 14 concert in Killington, VT. Details are below.

The current Great Southern lineup--which has backed the guitarist since 2000 under various monikers, including The Dickey Betts Band--includes Betts' son, Duane Betts, on guitar, along with fellow guitarist Andy Aledort, bassist Pedro Arevalo, keyboardist Mike Kach, and drummers Frankie Lombardi and James Varnado.

"Let's Get Together," Betts and his band's most recent studio album, surfaced in 2001. The set was released a year after The Allman Brothers Band suspended Betts from the band prior to the start of the Allmans' 2000 summer tour, a suspension which became permanent the following year.

A live DVD, "Live from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame," followed in 2005. A live CD entitled "The Official Bootleg" hit shelves a year later.
