DJ Z-Trip tackles the club circuit

Hip-Hop DJ Z-Trip continues to support of his critically acclaimed debut, "Shifting Gears," with extensive roadwork.

A veteran of the Coachella Music Festival and Lollapalooza, Z-Trip will visit more than 20 cities over the coming month, including Philadelphia, Atlanta and San Francisco.

"I'll be doing the blends and mixing for which I'm known, but I'll also be performing stuff from the new album taking the whole show to the next level," Z-Trip said in a press release.

The lead single from "Shifting Gears"--the Depeche Mode-influenced "Walking Dead," which features Linkin Park's Chester Bennington--was a hit on modern rock radio throughout the summer.

Z-Trip can also be seen in "Scratch: All the Way Live," the sequel to the turntable film "Scratch--the Movie." Directed by Doug Pray ("Hype," "Scratch--the Movie"), the "Scratch: All the Way Live" concert DVD highlights a stop at West Hollywood, CA's House of Blues during the last national Scratch Tour. Z-Trip also appears on "Motown Remixed," for which he remixed the Jackson 5 hit "I Want You Back."

Opening Z-Trip's upcoming shows is the seminal rap group Black Sheep , who are currently recording a new album titled "8WM." The group's 1990s hit "Choice is Yours" was recently resurrected for a nationally televised JCPenney clothing commercial.

"It's cool that [Z-Trip is] affording us the opportunity to introduce the new stuff as well as have fun with the old, Black Sheep's Dres said in an e-mail to liveDaily. He is joined in the group by Mista Lawnge. "We're playing with the possibility of releasing the album independently on our own label called Collective Records. But being free agents, you never know. The freedom is dope though."

"I'm excited to have them on the road with me," Z-Trip added in a press release. "They were definitely an influence on me. And it's great to see them back together. Live, they've always been about having a good time and that's an element sorely missing from today's scene. People who come to these shows are definitely in for a treat."
