DMX sentenced on animal cruelty, theft, drug charges
DMX was sentenced Friday (1/30) to 90 days in jail and 18 months supervised probation for animal-cruelty, theft and drug charges, according to The Arizona Republic.
The rapper, whose real name is Earl Simmons, pleaded guilty in late December to the charges, which were related to three separate cases, including an August raid on his home during which sheriff's deputies found 12 malnourished dogs, three buried dead dogs, drugs and a cache of weapons. The charges also were the result of an incident in April in which Simmons gave a false name and Social Security number when being treated at the Mayo Clinic Hospital in Phoenix.
Under the terms of the sentence, Simmons also must pay $3,600 in fines and $7,500 in restitution to the Mayo Clinic and serve 360 hours of community service.
The judge reportedly granted Simmons the right to apply to serve his sentence in Florida, over the objections of the deputy county attorney, who reportedly claimed in court that Simmons had 21 prior convictions, including at least seven felony convictions.
