Dope plots tour dates as album release nears
Alt-metal outfit Dope will pound the pavement through the end of the year to back its third album, "Group Therapy."
The group's in-progress outing is scheduled to roll through U.S. clubs non-stop until mid-December.
Due out on Oct. 21, "Group Therapy" is Dope's third full-length, and marks the group's first set on its own label, Recon Records, which the group launched in partnership with Artemis Records after splitting with Epic.
Group frontman and namesake Edsel Dope said that releasing the album on his own label allowed him to make the unorthodox move of including on the new disc full-length videos for each of the album's 13 tracks, and to do so without pricing the album higher than a normal CD (the set will be priced at $12.98, according to a press release).
"This never would have been possible without starting our own label," Edsel said in a statement. "The major labels have a specific format that they're used to following and they don't think outside the box. I wanted to break all the rules this time and provide an overload of content, while showing everyone that you don't have to jack up the price to do so."
Dope produced "Group Therapy" by himself, and enlisted Jay Baumgardner (Drowning Pool, Evanescence, Papa Roach) to mix it.
Full versions of three of the album's music videos, as well as excerpts of the remaining 10, are posted at Recon Records' website.
