Doves scrap part of U.S. tour due to illness

U.K.'s Doves , who were due to launch a U.S. tour at the end of the month, have pulled the plug on a number of dates.

Among the aborted shows are the band's April 30 performance at the Coachella festival and a number of early May headlining stops, most of which were set in the West. The outing is now slated to kick off with a previously scheduled May 16 concert in Toronto. Details are shown below.

The move comes as singer/bassist Jimi Goodwin tries to recover from vocal cord problems, according to Capitol Records.

"If he makes a speedy recovery, attempts will be made to pick up the tour a few days earlier in Chicago on May 13," the label said in a press release.

"Yes sadly it's true," Goodwin said in a message posted at the band's website. "I've been told to rest my vocals for two to three weeks. Coachella aside, it's postponement not cancellation! We are already tentatively re-scheduling."

Doves have been touring in support of their third album, "Some Cities," which debuted at No. 1 on the British album charts. Samples of several cuts from the album--including the single "Black and White Town"--are available via the band's website.
