Doves to shake off 'Rust' on late spring outing

Indie-rock trio Doves will hit North American stages this spring as the band returns from a four-year layoff with the new album "Kingdom of Rust," due in stores next month.

The British group will launch the headlining run May 14 in San Diego, CA. The 18-city trek will hit nightclubs and small theaters across the continent through early June, with the band wrapping things up June 7 in Boston. All dates are below.

Recorded in a converted farmhouse in Cheshire, England, with producer Dan Austin (Cherry Ghost, Massive Attack), "Kingdom of Rust" is the band's first album since 2005's "Some Cities." John Leckie (Radiohead, The Stone Roses) was originally slated to produce the album, but owing to conflicting time commitments, he was only able to contribute to two of the set's tracks, "Winter Hill" and "10.03," along with the B-side "Push Me On," which appears on the first single version of the album's title track.

Due in stores April 6, initial pressings of the album will include a bonus DVD, and the band's US label, Astralwerks, will issue a version of the record on double heavyweight 12" vinyl.

After releasing its first three albums in less than five years, the band took an extended break after finishing up its tour obligations behind "Some Cities" in early 2006. "In hindsight, getting off the bike like that did sort of throw us as to why it's been so long between releases, but it was necessary mentally at the time," frontman Jimi Goodwin told Billboard.com in December.

A free download of the new album's lead-off track, "Jetstream," is available at the official Doves website.
