Dresden Dolls add new 'Virginia' dates

"Cabaret punk" duo The Dresden Dolls --who also have described themselves as "dadaist vaudeville"--will launch another round of dates in October backing their most recent album, "Yes, Virginia."

The outing, which kicks off Oct. 9 in San Diego, comes before singer/pianist Amanda Palmer and drummer Brian Viglione open a five-week stretch performing in the American Repertory Theatre's staging of "The Onion Cellar," an original production conceived by Palmer and Marcus Stern, with music composed by Palmer.

The production will run Dec. 9 to Jan. 13 at the Zero Arrow Theatre in Cambridge, MA.

The Dolls--who took their name from a relatively obscure b-side by British art-rockers The Fall--will be joined on their October tour by The Red Paintings, a self-described "orchestral sci-fi art rock" act from Australia.

"Yes, Virginia," produced by Sean Slade and Paul Q. Kolderie (Radiohead, Pixies, Hole), follows up on the band's self-titled 2004 debut album. The set was recorded over several weeks last year in a turn-of-the-century mansion converted into a recording studio in the Catskills Mountains region of upstate New York.
