Dropkick Murphys ready to stomp through the U.S.
Boston's Dropkick Murphys plan to mount a late-winter tour that will touch down at clubs throughout the U.S. and conclude with a multi-night stand in the group's hometown.
The trek gets underway March 1 in New York City, and dates, most of which are set in the eastern half of the U.S., stretch through mid-month. Sick of It All , Horrorpops, and The Tossers will open the shows.
Five consecutive Boston performances will cap the run, including a double-header on St. Patrick's Day (March 18). Those shows will feature a rotating roster of opening acts, some of which are yet to be announced. Details are included in the itinerary below.
Dropkick Murphys will warm up for the tour with a Feb. 28 appearance on "Late Night with Conan O'Brien."
The group continues to support its June release, "The Warrior's Code," which follows 2003's "Blackout." The album's title track pays tribute to Masachusetts boxing legend Mickey Ward.
"I'd say Micky Ward is a person of intense character, skill and overall heart," drummer Matt Kelly told liveDaily during a recent interview. "To honor a man with such attributes is only a natural affirmation for a band whose pride in their background, upbringing and city--or region, in this case--is at the forefront of its makeup."
Formed in 1996, Dropkick Murphys got their start by playing for fun in the basement of a friend's barbershop. The band's goal was to "blend the musical influences we had grown up with (Punk Rock, Irish Folk, Rock and Hardcore) into one loud, raucous, chaotic, and often out-of-tune mix that we could call our own," according to the group's website biography.
