Eddie Vedder plans first solo trek

Pearl Jam lead singer Eddie Vedder is set to mount his first solo tour to support his motion picture soundtrack for the recent Sean Penn-directed "Into the Wild."

Vedder has lined up six cities for the mini-trek, which kicks off April 2 in Vancouver, the only non-California date scheduled for the outing.

New Zealand singer/songwriter Liam Finn--son of Split Enz co-founder Neil Finn--will open the dates, which go on sale Feb. 22, except for the Santa Barbara show, which goes public Feb. 29.

Penn hand-picked Vedder to create the soundtrack for last year's "Into the Wild," the director's adaptation of the 1996 book of the same name by Jon Krakauer, which tells the story of college graduate Christopher McCandless' ill-fated travels in Alaska.

Vedder won a Golden Globe last month for the song "Guaranteed" from the soundtrack album, which debuted last September at No. 11 on the Billboard 200 album chart, selling about 39,000 copies during its first week of release.

Vedder and Pearl Jam are slated to headline the June 12-15 Bonnaroo Festival in Manchester, TN.
