Edwin McCain supports vintage R&B set
Fresh off a UK jaunt, Edwin McCain is getting ready to hit the US trail once again to support his latest album, "Nobody's Fault But Mine."
The singer/songwriter plans to visit clubs and theaters across the country starting Nov. 14 in Annapolis, MD, and stretching through late January. The outing, which includes House of Blues venues from coast to coast, mixes acoustic-trio performances with full band gigs. The itinerary is listed below and further details can be found at McCain's website.
The performer's ninth album, "Nobody's Fault But Mine," was released on the new Saguaro Road Records label in June. McCain, known for penning radio hits including "I'll Be" and "I Could Not Ask For More," took a rare break from songwriting this time around to record a set of vintage R&B and classic southern soul tunes. He called the experience an opportunity of a lifetime.
"For me, it was an absolute blast, completely liberating to be playing, singing and interpreting other peoples' songs just purely for the joy of doing it," McCain explained in his bio. "It was amazing to return to that era and mindset and to really understand the beauty and absolute brilliance of the music."
The South Carolina native listened to hundreds of tracks before handpicking the 15 that would end up on the record.
"I wanted people to listen to this album in their car, and no matter what they're driving, feel like they're in a 1966 Cadillac convertible heading down a two lane road between Greenville and Augusta with the AM radio on, the top down and the wind blowing through their hair," he added.
The set includes lead single "Some Kind of Wonderful," as well as classics including "Can I Get a Witness," "Grits Ain't Groceries (All Around the World)," "Ninety-Nine and a Half (Won't Do)," the title track and "Good Times," which is streaming at McCain's MySpace page.
The singer/songwriter released his last set of original material, "Lost in America," in 2006.
