Erykah Badu maps new 'Amerykah' on summer outing

Soul and hip-hop singer Erykah Badu will keep busy on the road this summer as she awaits the release later this year of her follow-up to last year's "New Amerykah."

The performer's schedule features a number of festival appearances, including the May 24 UCLE Jazz Reggae Festival in Westwood, CA. Badu will also tackle appearances at rural Washington State's Sasquatch! Festival (5/25) and Manchester, TN's Bonnaroo (6/14). Details are included below.

The singer continues to tour behind her long-awaited fourth studio set, "New Amerykah Part One (4th World War)," which dropped early last year and landed at No. 2 on The Billboard 200. The album's lead single, "Honey," was released late last year to coincide with the singer's 10-year anniversary in the music biz, and it's still making waves on R&B/hip-hop charts.

Badu is well along on a follow-up to the album, which marked her first full-length effort in seven years. "New Amerykah, Part 2 (Return of the Ankh)," is due this fall, with the album's first single set to arrive in August, according to Badu's website.

The singer said the new album is "more spiritual" than the previous one. "'Part 2' would be the other group of songs which are more right brained and emotional if you will,” the singer told the Austin American-Statesman in March. “They fit together like a puzzle sonically, how they sound, how they feel.”

Prior to last year's "New Amerykah," Badu's previous studio effort was 2003's gold-certified EP "Worldwide Underground," which also debuted in the Top 5 on The Billboard 200.
