When Of Montreal lead vocalist Kevin Barnes described his group's latest album, "Skeletal Lamping," to Pitchfork.com, he said, "Musically, it is sort of all over the place." "All over the place" is a perfectly good way to describe the band's live show, as well.

As fans already know, an Of Montreal concert is a chance to dress up--preferably with plenty of glitter, sequins and feathers in every color of the rainbow. Although Barnes is technically the frontman, he shares the spotlight to the nth degree. In addition to bandmates Bryan Poole (guitar), Dottie Alexander (keyboards), Davey Pierce (keyboards), James Huggins III (drums, guitar, etc.), and partner Nina Barnes (bass), the stage fills up with mime actors dressed in unitards and masks who act out the lyrics of each song with props of all sizes.

Of Montreal have a few dates left on the US leg of their current tour, including sets at Lollapalooza in Chicago (8/7), Street Scene in San Diego (8/28-29) and the Monolith Festival in Morrison, CO (9/12-13). I attended their show at the Fox Theatre in Oakland, CA, on Friday (7/24), and here are some of my photos.
