Grant Hart takes fresh 'Wax' on road

Former Husker Du drummer Grant Hart will hit the road next month in support of "Hot Wax," his first solo studio album in 10 years.

The tour kicks off Nov. 5 in Des Moines, IA, with Hart visiting 16 cities on the trip, which extends through a Dec. 22 appearance in Cleveland. Dates are below.

"Hot Wax," Hart's third studio album (and first since 1999's "Good News For Modern Man"), surfaced last month. The set, recorded in both Montreal and Hart's hometown of Minneapolis, features appearances by members of Godspeed You Black Emperor and Silver Mt. Zion, among others.

"The song 'Narcissus, Narcissus' is my first attempt at combining ancient Greek mythology and American rock-a-billy," Hart said in a press release touting the new album. "By merging those influences with an ice cream truck atmosphere I think I have found a style that defines this period of my career.

"'You're the Reflection of the Moon on the Water' is one of the most organic rock and roll songs that I have ever written," he added. "Its style owes a lot to my devotion for Patti Smith. It was inspired by a comment made by a monk during the selection process to find the next Panchen Lhama, who said of one candidate, 'He is the reflection of the moon on the water but he is not the moon.'"

As a member of post-punk icons Husker Du, Hart joined with fellow Minnesotans Bob Mould and Greg Norton to record six highly influential albums in the '80s before the group disbanded following 1987's "Warehouse: Songs and Stories." Hart later formed the trio Nova Mob, moving from drums to guitar and vocals. That band released two full-length LPs, an EP and several singles before breaking up in 1997.
