Indie drummer Jerry Fuchs dies in elevator accident

Drummer Gerhardt "Jerry" Fuchs died early Sunday (11/8) morning after falling four stories down an elevator shaft in an industrial building in Brooklyn, according to The New York Times.

Fuchs, 34, who had attended a benefit party on the building's seventh floor, had been trying to jump out of a stalled elevator car when his jacket got caught on something, causing him to fall, the Times reported.

Local police told reporters that there was no suspected criminality; however, the medical examiner and the Buildings Department are investigating.

Fuchs grew up in Marietta, GA, and attended the University of Georgia in Athens.

He had worked with several bands, including his most recent gig with the Juan MacLean. Fuchs also performed hundreds of shows with other indie bands, including !!! , Vineland, Turing Machine, Holy Ghost! and Maserati .

He recently performed with Toronto-based MSTRKRFT on the "Late Show With David Letterman."

Fuchs' peers admired his musicianship and adaptability, saying he was "literally great at what he did" and "was incredibly generous with his talent," according to the Times.
