Jay Reatard's band quits tour
Garage/punk rocker Jay Reatard 's band has quit his current headlining tour, according to the singer/songwriter, who posted details of the split on Twitter.
"Band quit! F--k them," Reatard posted on his Twitter account Tuesday (10/6) morning, referring to bassist Stephen Pope and drummer Billy Hayes. "They are boring rich kids who can't play for [s]--t anyways ... Say hello to your ugly and boring wifes [oo]ps I mean lifes guys suck it."
In a subsequent Twitter post, Reatard invited potential replacements to email him.
"So who wants to see just how terrible it is to play in my band . I mean its so so hard I promise its the worst :) Jayreatard@gmail.com."
The departed pair had performed with Reatard since the tour's launch last month in Chicago. The trek was on a short break before resuming with a West Coast swing that will apparently continue with new musicians Oct. 15 in Seattle, followed by three additional shows in California, after which Reatard and company will head to Europe. US dates are below, while Reatard's international schedule can be found at his website.
The Memphis-bred Reatard self-produced his latest album, "Watch Me Fall," which surfaced in August. The set follows a pair of singles compilations released last year: "Singles 06-07" and "Matador Singles '08."
"This new album has been challenging," Reatard said in a press statement before the album's release. "It's the first time I've written and recorded an album specifically because a label wants to release it. I've never made a record for a record label. I've always finished my recordings and then a label is decided on."
