Jay-Z, Alicia Keys push back World Series performance
Jay-Z and Alicia Keys will perform their hit single, "Empire State of Mind," tomorrow (10/29) on the field at Yankee Stadium prior to Game Two of the 2009 World Series, according to a press release. The performance originally was scheduled to take place prior to Game One.
The New York natives' performance will be followed by Keys' solo rendition of the National Anthem.
"As a die-hard Yankee fan, I'm honored to perform a song that celebrates the greatness of New York in one of our city's most important landmarks, Yankee Stadium," Jay-Z said in a statement.
Fox television will air both performances as part of its World Series coverage,.
In related news, this year's World Series has for the first time been dedicated to a community service effort; Game One will be focused on Welcome Back Veterans, a Major League Baseball Charities initiative designed to support returning Iraq and Afghanistan veterans and their families with mental health treatment and job opportunities. MLB Charities already has donated more than $10 million to the initiative.
