Jonny Lang pushes tour into the fall
Blues singer/guitarist Jonny Lang , who's been on the road since early May, has filled in more blanks on his summer outing and has mapped a number of new fall dates.
New to Lang's schedule since last check are about a half-dozen August shows, as well as a hefty batch of September and October engagements. Details are included below.
Lang, who rocketed to fame at the age of 16 with his 1997 album "Lie to Me," continues to support his fifth studio set, "Turn Around," a gospel-themed collection that chronicles Lang's spiritual transformation after dealing with the pressures of stardom.
"It wasn't so long ago that I was spiraling downward in a lot of ways, until God touched my life and set me on the right track," Lang said in a statement. "I feel a huge debt to give glory back to Him for everything He has done for me. It's the least I can do."
The idea to work on a gospel album came from Lang's producer, Ron Fair, who suggested it to Lang while the two were putting the final touches on his previous album, "Long Time Coming."
"He looks at me and goes, 'Dude, you need to make a gospel record," Lang said in a press release. "Now, I hadn't really mentioned much to Ron about that side of my life, but for some reason he knew where I was at. So I thought about it for just a second and said, 'Yes, I do.'"
Collaborators who co-wrote the 14 songs on "Turn Around" with Lang include Grammy winners Drew Ramsey and Shannon Sanders, as well as five-time Grammy winner Steven Curtis Chapman. The set also features guest appearances from Michael McDonald, Sam Bush, Buddy Miller and Nickel Creek violinist Sara Watkins.
Lang's work on "Turn Around" paid off in the form of a Grammy Award for Best Rock or Rap Gospel Album.
