Leo Kottke launches a new round of dates
Hard-touring guitarist/songwriter Leo Kottke is getting ready to head out this week on a new batch of US dates that will take him well into next year.
The performer, known for his unconventional picking style and baritone voice, will launch the outing Thursday (11/1) in Scottsdale, AZ, and play gigs from coast to coast through next June. He also has a week's worth of shows booked in Australia beginning Feb. 22. US dates are listed below; international shows can be found at Kottke's website.
The musician's latest album is 2005's "Sixty Six Steps," which is a collaboration with ex-Phish bassist Mike Gordon. The release is the pair's second album together, following 2002's "Clone." Kottke dropped his most recent solo effort, "Try and Stop Me," in 2004.
Last year, the guitarist released the DVD "Home & Away Revisited," a reissue that captures his sold-out 1988 performance in Toronto. The film shows the entire concert and includes backstage footage from a gig in Nashville and a music session with Kottke, Chet Atkins and Doc Watson.
Despite obstacles including partial deafness and severe tendon damage, Kottke has released more than 30 albums in a career that spans nearly 40 years. His music delves into many genres, drawing on folk, rock, jazz, blues, bluegrass and classical styles.
