Lit drummer Allen Shellenberger succumbs to cancer
Allen Shellenberger, founding member and drummer for Southern California rock outfit Lit , died Thursday (8/13) after a 15-month battle with brain cancer. He was 39.
After receiving the diagnosis of a malignant glioma brain tumor in May 2008, Shellenberger immediately underwent chemotherapy and radiation treatments, as well as clinical trials at Los Angeles' Cedars-Sinai Maxine Dunitz Neurosurgical Institute.
Shellenberger, who spent nearly two decades drumming for Lit, continued performing with the Orange County band through last fall.
Throughout Shellenberger's battle, the remaining members hosted auctions, fundraisers and charity events to raise money for brain cancer research.
