LiveDaily Sessions: The Duke Spirit

The Duke Spirit , a five-piece rock band out of London, England, appreciate not being a attributed to a particular British music scene. Their sound--a mixture of punk, soul and garage--may not be new, but at least they're creating what they like.

"There's always one band in any sort of scene like that who's always the innovator and then there's a host of others who are running after them," said guitarist Dan Higgins. "I think that's unhealthy."

The group is touring in support of their February release, "Neptune," and taking some time off from song writing. Liela Moss, the sole female of The Duke Spirit, explains why.

"I find it totally impossible [to write new songs while on tour," said Moss. "I want to see this firsthand--this band on tour that are given enough time to write a song. I wake up at half past six after four hours sleep and we've already done an acoustic session and an interview!"

The Duke Spirit are currently in the middle of a European jaunt with dates that stretch into early fall. Details are available at the band's website.
