Local H hits road to push forthcoming album
Rock duo Local H will gear up for the Feb. 5 release of its latest album with a U.S. club tour that kicks off next month. Tickets to all of the group's stops are priced at $6.
Local H's upcoming tour will feature opening acts Injected and Seven Story. After taking a break at the end of the year, the duo plans to return to the road in January, according to its label.
"Here Comes the Zoo," Local H's fourth album, is the act's first release for Palm Pictures. The album features guest appearances from several musicians, including Josh Homme (Queens of the Stone Age) and Jerry Only (The Misfits), and was produced by Jack Douglas (Aerosmith, John Lennon).
A download of the "Here Comes the Zoo" track "Son of Cha" is available at Palm Pictures' website.
In advance of its headlining tour, the Illinois-based duo is due to play at Chicago's Double Door on Saturday and Sunday night (10/27-28) as part of the club's 5th annual Halloween Bash, which each night will feature seven bands impersonating various well-known acts. Local H is set to appear as the Sex Pistols on Saturday night and as Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers on Sunday night, according to the venue's official website.
"Here Comes the Zoo" is the first Local H album to feature new drummer Brian St. Clair. Founding member Scott Lucas (vocals, guitar) recruited St. Clair--who, at the time, was a drum tech for Cheap Trick's Bun E. Carlos--after the duo's other founding member, drummer Joe Daniels, departed in the late '90s.
Daniels' departure followed the 1998 release of "Pack Up the Cats" on Polygram. The label was scooped up by Universal Music Group and UMG parent company Seagram a short while after the album's release, and Local H was ultimately dropped. A band bio written by Lucas' mother addresses the shake up:
Everything seemed fine--and then those damn fools at the wine cooler company bought Polygram and then everything went to heck. Joe left the band. Everyone at the label got fired or quit. Scotty would call and say, "Yknow, Mom, I dont know anybody at the label anymore. Its kind of weird."
