Magnetic Fields, Mountain Goats top partial Noise Pop lineup
Indie-pop outfit Magnetic Fields and alt-rock duo The Mountain Goats head the list of early bookings for the 16th annual San Francisco Noise Pop Festival.
Organizers of the fest--which stretches over six days, from Feb. 26 to March 2--also announced that Gutter Twins will perform at the festival, which will take place in dozens of venues around the city. The band is a collaboration between Afghan Whigs frontman Greg Dulli and former Queens of the Stone Age and Screaming Trees lead singer Mark Lanegan.
Magnetic Fields leader Stephin Merritt will guide his group through a pair of headlining shows at San Francisco's Herbst Theatre during the event as the band supports its forthcoming new album, "Distortions," which is due in stores Jan. 15.
The Mountain Goats, whose most recent album was last year's "Get Lonely," will perform three different times during the festival, according to organizers.
Other acts announced for the festival, which began in 1993 as a single-night affair, include Cursive , Kelly Stoltz, Tilly & The Wall, Capgun Coup, Blitzen Trapper, Fleet Foxes, Fu Manchu and Saviours. More names will be added to the roster before the event, with organizers expecting more than 100 acts in all. For more information on specific performers, consult the festival's website.
Aside from musical acts, the underground pop festival will also include gallery art shows, a music-themed film festival, educational panel discussions with musicians and industry sorts and various related parties and other events.
Past acts at Noise Pop have included Modest Mouse, The White Stripes, Death Cab For Cutie, Bright Eyes, The Shins, The Flaming Lips and many others.
