Marty Stuart hits the road ahead of 'Compadres'
Country singer/songwriter Marty Stuart has surveyed a long road ahead over spring and summer as he prepares to back an upcoming compilation consisting solely of duets.
Stuart, who kicked off his most recent stretch of concert dates last week in Savannah, GA, is next scheduled to appear Thursday (3/29) in Nashville, TN. The singer's itinerary stretches throughout the rest of the year, with at least one road appearance scheduled for each month remaining in 2007.
Backing Stuart on most dates will be his regular band, which includes guitarist Kenny Vaughn, drummer Harry Stinson and bassist Brian Glenn.
The singer's new album, "Compadres: An Anthology of Duets," features 14 duets with performers Stuart has worked with during his career. Featured performers on the set, which is due in stores June 5, include Merle Haggard, Loretta Lynn, Johnny Cash and many others.
"The people on 'Compadres' come from a wildcat America, a less tamed America," Stuart said in a press release. "Pops Staples, Steve Earle, Earl Scruggs, B.B. King, these are the kind of people who made America a more interesting place--sonically, visually, spiritually. Those are the people I wanted to emulate as a kid, those are the people I ended up traveling with. I like to think I ended up one of them. They brought a complexity to their music; they brought their sweat, their soul, their lives."
Stuart's most recent studio album of new material is 2005's "Badlands," a musical history of the Lakota tribe. Stuart worked with the tribe during the songwriting and recording process, and the record received the tribe's blessing.
