Elton John
"The Red Piano"
(Island)
Those who couldn't make it to Elton John's Las Vegas residency at Caesar's Palace can now enjoy "The Red Piano" in the comfort of their own homes. Though originally available only at Best Buy stores, the DVD is now shelved at a variety of retail outlets. The signature red piano, offset by imagery developed by renowned photographer David LaChapelle, complements the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer's 14-song performance, which includes hits "Bennie and the Jets," "Rocket Man," "Tiny Dancer" and Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting." The Blu-ray version also features a 50-minute documentary on the legendary performer entitled "The Life and Legacy of Elton John." John began "The Red Piano" in 2004; the lengthy run ended last month.
Van Morrison
"Astral Weeks Live at the Hollywood Bowl: The Concert Film"
(Listen to the Lions Film)
In an Amazon.com exclusive, Van Morrison will unveil May 19 a concert film based on his critically acclaimed, classic album, "Astral Weeks." Recorded live over two nights last November at Los Angeles' Hollywood Bowl , the DVD captures the first time the legendary singer performed the entire record in one set, which unintentionally coincided with the 40th anniversary of the 1968 release. The production also includes bonus songs, behind-the-scenes footage and a discussion with Morrison about the meaning behind "Astral Weeks."
The Moody Blues
"The Moody Blues: Live at the Isle of Wight Festival 1970"
(Eagle Rock)
Though the festival took place nearly 40 years ago, The Moody Blues' 1970 performance at England's Isle of Wight Festival will make it to DVD May 26. The 79-minute set before an audience of more than 500,000 features 11 songs from the prog-rock outfit's catalog, including "Gypsy," "Tuesday Afternoon," "Question" and "Nights in White Satin." A 20-minute documentary takes a backstage look at the band before and after the festival gig.
Sia
"TV Is My Parent"
(Hear Music)
Australian pop singer Sia will release her first concert DVD May 19, chock full of live performance footage, music videos and more. The 95-minute disc begins with footage from a 2007 concert at New York City's Hiro Ballroom, including songs from her two most recent studio albums--2008's "Some People Have Real Problems" and 2006's "Colour the Small One"--as well as material recorded with Zero 7. Behind-the-scenes footage from her spring 2008 North American tour and music videos for four songs round out the DVD's content.
Paul Simon
"Paul Simon and Friends: The Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song"
(Shout! Factory)
In May 2007, dozens of artists came together in Washington, DC, to celebrate Paul Simon, the first recipient of the Library of Congress' Gershwin Prize for Popular Song. The evening featured Simon classics performed by artists such as Alison Krauss, Stevie Wonder, Lyle Lovett, Marc Anthony and Shawn Colvin, as well as footage of musician dating back to 1976. DVD highlights include a cover of the Simon & Garfunkel classic "The 59th Street Bridge Song (Feelin' Groovy)" by Grover and Elmo of the Muppets and a "Saturday Night Live" clip of Simon and George Harrison singing "Homeward Bound."
