Mew lines up late-year outing

Danish alt-rockers Mew head back to the US and Canada later this year for a lineup of mostly headlining dates in support of the band's first studio album in more then three years.

The trek kicks off Nov. 1 in Philadelphia, followed by the band's Dec. 1 support role opening for The Pixies in Washington, DC. The 12-city tour concludes Dec. 14 in Los Angeles. Dates are below.

During the outing, Mew will offer a chance for local bands in eight different markets to appear as opening support. For details on the submission process, and a list of the eight cities, check Mew's official website.

The band's fifth studio album, which surfaced in late August, is officially blessed with the wordy title "No More Stories / Are Told Today / I'm Sorry / They Washed Away / No More Stories / The World Is Grey / I'm Tired / Let's Wash Away," although most reviewers (and even the band itself) have taken to referring to the set simply as "No More Stories."

"We originally wanted a short title for the album but we couldn't find sufficiently redemptive words," lead singer Jonas Bjerre told the Danish publication Gaffa earlier this year. "The final title is the lyrics to the short intermezzo 'Hawaii Dream,' and when [guitarist] Bo [Madsen] suggested that we use the complete text as title it didn't take him long to convince [drummer] Silas [Utke Graae Jørgensen] and myself. It was like finding the missing piece in a puzzle."

The set, which spawned the singles "Introducing Palace Players" and "Repeaterbeater" and hit No. 1 on Billboard's Top Heatseekers chart, follows 2006's "And the Glass Handed Kites."
