Leo Kottke, Mike Gordon team for album and tour
Acoustic guitarist Leo Kottke and ex-Phish bassist Mike Gordon will team up for a U.S. tour this fall to support their forthcoming collaborative album, "Sixty Six Steps," due in stores Aug. 23.
The duo's trek will take them through clubs and small theaters in 25 cities, and starts off with a Sept. 15 date in Lawrence, KS. The outing is scheduled to stretch into early November, including an Aug. 23 appearance at the Austin City Limits Festival in Austin, TX.
The tour is capped off by a Nov. 2 show in Washington, DC. Tickets for all shows will go on sale over the next couple of weeks, according to Gordon's website.
"Sixty Six Steps" is the pair's second album together, following 2002's "Clone." The new album was recorded in Nassau, Bahamas, with producer David Z (Prince, Johnny Lang) behind the boards.
Gordon was the bassist for iconic jam-band Phish for all of its 21 years, until the group's breakup in 2004. Gordon, who released his first solo album, "Inside In," in late 2003, has also toured recently with the Benevento-Russo Duo, as well as performing his own solo shows with a backup band.
Kottke debuted in 1968 with the solo album "12-Sting Blues." A bout with tendonitis in the '80s nearly caused his early retirement from the music business, but Kottke rebounded to release a steady stream of new material over the following two decades.
