Modest Mouse maps late winter tour
Modest Mouse will get out on the road next month for a brief late-winter tour, the band's first dates since wrapping up a two-year road slog in support of its latest studio effort.
The group, accompanied on this tour by Grandaddy guitarist Jim Fairchild, kicks off the jaunt Feb. 22 in Oakland, CA, and will hit 12 cities on the outing, which concludes with a March 8 slot at Miami's Langerado Festival. Dates are below.
Mimicking Birds, a recent signing to Modest Mouse frontman Isaac Brock's Glacial Pace label, will provide opening support on all dates except the Langerado appearance.
Modest Mouse's fifth and most recent studio set, "We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank," surfaced in early 2007. The record--and the tour that followed--featured former Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr. Upon its release, the set entered The Billboard 200 chart at the No. 1 position, making it the band's highest-debuting effort to date. Marr has since become a member of British rock band The Cribs.
"We Were Dead ..." follows 2004's "Good News for People Who Love Bad News," which earned the band its first platinum-album certification and spawned the hit song "Float On."
According to recent interviews, before Modest Mouse gets down to work on its next studio album, the band plans to release an EP containing unreleased songs from its previous two records.
