Mogwai plots to begin 'Howling' with fall tour
Post-rock pioneers Mogwai have sketched out a North American tour this fall to back the release of the band's forthcoming new CD, "The Hawk is Howling."
The Scottish quintet will polish off a quick round of shows in Mexico and Canada this month, beginning with a June 24 date in Guadalajara, Mexico. The fall outing kicks off Sept. 3 in Portland, OR, and hits 20 cities during the month-long trek.
Indie electronic duo F--- Buttons will provide opening support on all of the fall headlining dates; details are included below.
In July and August, Mogwai will set out on the European summer festival circuit. All of those dates can be found at the group's website.
"The Hawk is Howling," due in stores Sept. 22, is the mostly instrumental group's follow-up to 2006's "Mr. Beast," which was notable for featuring vocals on several cuts.
"Howling" reunites Mogwai with producer Andy Miller (Arab Strap, The Delgados), who worked with the band on many of its early records, including the group's highly regarded 1997 debut, "Young Team."
"It's got it all, dreamy ballads about forbidden love gone awry, one minute pointless instrumentals and even some spoken word about the future of the music industry in India," multi-instrumentalist Barry Burns wrote about the new album last month on the band's website.
