Mya assembles fall headlining tour to back new album
R&B singer Mya follows her opening stint for Brian McKnight with a fall headlining run that supports her recently released third album, "Moodring."
After playing her final three support dates with McKnight this week, Mya takes a short break before launching her own outing in mid-October.
Mya, who rose to fame at the age of 18 with her self-titled 1998 debut, said that her involvement on the GRAMMY®-winning hit "Lady Marmalade"--a track she recorded with Pink, Christina Aguilera and Lil' Kim for the "Moulin Rouge" soundtrack--was a key factor in preparing her for "Moodring."
"'Lady Marmalade' gave everyone a chance to show another side of themselves," she said in a statement, "and having that freedom certainly pushed towards the direction I went into on 'Moodring.'"
Her film-related work also includes a supporting role in last year's big-screen adaptation of the musical "Chicago."
"I had to act, sing and dance and having to push myself like that was incredible," she said. "Being in a musical really took me back because before I'd even landed a record deal, I'd thought about relocating from Maryland to New York City and pursuing a career on Broadway."
She'll make another motion-picture appearance in the forthcoming "Dirty Dancing" sequel, "Havana Nights," which arrives in theaters next February.
Meanwhile, her musical pursuits continue with her push behind "Moodring," which features the cut "My Love Is Like ... Wo." A streaming version of the track is posted at her official website.
"There are a lot of different emotions and situations on Moodring," she continued, "and that's because I really wanted to show how I feel. Because I'm at a point in my life where I'm comfortable sharing those sides of me. This album has been a playground for me."
