Neil Diamond's 'August Night' special hits prime time
Neil Diamond will be celebrated tomorrow (8/14) with the broadcast of "Hot August Night: NYC," a prime time concert special culled from the live DVD that hits shelves that same day.
The special presentation, which is set to air at 8 p.m. ET on CBS, will combine performances from Diamond's recent sold-out shows at New York City's Madison Square Garden with snippets of the musician's visit to his native Brooklyn. Some of the singer's Top 10 hits, including "America," "Cracklin' Rosie" and "Sweet Caroline," are among the songs set to air.
The DVD, "Hot August Night/NYC: Live From Madison Square Garden," available tomorrow (8/14) exclusively via Wal-Mart, features 25 songs over the course of two hours, as well as a behind-the-scenes look at Diamond's return to his childhood home in Brooklyn.
Diamond, who was named the 2009 MusiCares Person of the Year in February, finished up an arena tour earlier this year. The legendary singer told Billboard.com last November that he would be heading into the studio with producer Rick Rubin in January. No word yet on when the new material might surface.
"Home Before Dark," Diamond's most recent release, hit shelves early last year and earned the singer/songwriter his first-ever No. 1 album on The Billboard 200.
