North Mississippi Allstars 'Do It' on the road

Tireless road warriors the North Mississippi Allstars will spend the holidays in the South before kicking off their 2009 "Do It Like We Used To" tour next month.

After Christmas, the country-blues-jam trio will close out the year with a handful of holiday performances, including the Bluff City Ball New Year's Eve Extravaganza in Memphis. The band's 2009 schedule, which currently comprises 25 cities across the US, is set to launch Jan. 14 in Fayetteville, AR. Two-night stands are booked in Austin, San Francisco and Denver.

Hill Country Review, the side project of North Mississippi Allstars drummer Cody Dickinson, will also appear on all dates. The itinerary is listed below.

The NMA trio--made up of guitarist/vocalist Luther Dickinson, brother Cody and bassist Chris Chew--is supporting recent live and studio sets, as well as a forthcoming retrospective. Last January, North Mississippi Allstars released their fifth studio effort, "Hernando," which broke into The Billboard 200 and topped the magazine's blues albums chart. The record, released on the band's own Songs of the South label, returns NMA to their blues-rock roots.

"Lately, I've been listening to early ZZ Top, early Black Sabbath, early AC/DC, some Led Zeppelin thrown in, Hendrix," Luther Dickinson explained upon the album's release. "That's what I grew up listening to before I headed into Black Flag. I wanted to put that root down and just go straight for it."

North Mississippi Allstars followed "Hernando" with the recently released two-disc set, "Boulderado: Live at the Fox," which captures last winter's performance at the Fox Theater in Boulder, CO.

Next month, the band plans to drop a double-CD/DVD retrospective titled "Do It Like We Used To."
