North Mississippi Allstars tour like they used to

Blues-infused jam-rockers North Mississippi Allstars have added another leg of US dates to their "Do It Like We Used To Do" trek.

The Grammy-nominated trio will hit the pavement again starting March 20 in Ocean Springs, MS. The club/theater run is scheduled to cover the Southeast and East Coast through mid-April. Details are listed below.

Once again, Hill Country Review, the side project of North Mississippi Allstars drummer Cody Dickinson, will open the shows. Also, Umphrey's McGee is set to appear at the April 4 Baltimore stop, and Widespread Panic will be featured at the April 18 tour finale in Orange Beach, AL.

Last month, NMA released "Do It Like We Used To Do," a double-CD/DVD set comprising a host of music highlighting the bandmates' live performances over their first 12 years together. The collection, which debuted in the Top 5 on the blues album chart, includes a full-length documentary on the history of the group featuring interviews and live footage. All the songs on the set are streaming at North Mississippi Allstars' MySpace page.

The Allstars' latest studio effort is last year's "Hernando," which broke into The Billboard 200 and topped the blues albums chart. The record marked NMA's debut on its own Songs of the South label and returned the group to its blues-rock roots.

"Lately, I've been listening to early ZZ Top, early Black Sabbath, early AC/DC, some Led Zeppelin thrown in, Hendrix," guitarist/vocalist Luther Dickinson explained upon the album's release. "That's what I grew up listening to before I headed into Black Flag. I wanted to put that root down and just go straight for it."

North Mississippi Allstars also continue to pump out live recordings, the latest of which capture recent performances in Denver and Boulder, CO.

Last year, the relentlessly touring Allstars took a break while Luther Dickinson toured with the Black Crowes and brother Cody Dickinson and NMA bassist Chris Chew formed The Hill Country Revue with longtime musical friends Kirk Smithhart, Edward Cleveland and Daniel Coburn. That side project expects to drop its debut album in April.
