Oasis, Muse, MGMT take NME honors

Oasis , Muse and MGMT were among the big winners at Tuesday (2/25) night's Shockwaves NME Awards, held at London's O2 Academy Brixton.

Oasis took home honors for Best British Band and guitarist Noel Gallagher won the Best Band Blog award, according to NME.com.

Muse won the award for Best Live Band and Best Album Artwork for "HAARP." Frontman Matt Bellamy was named Sexiest Male, while Paramore's Hayley Williams won the Sexiest Female counterpart.

MGMT was named Best New Band and also took home the Best Track award for "Time To Pretend."

The Best International Band award went to The Killers and the Best Solo Artist honors went to Pete Doherty.

Other winners included Kings of Leon (Best Album), Elbow (Outstanding Contribution to British Music) and Last Shadow Puppets (Best Video). The Best DVD award went to Arctic Monkeys for "Live At The Apollo."

Glastonbury 2008 was named Best Live Event and the London Astoria was named Best Venue.

The Cure was presented the Godlike Genius award by Tim Burton, who said the band's music was the only thing that saved him when he was unhappily working as an animator for Disney, according to a Billboard report.

The Cure closed the NMEs with a hit-filled live set that included "Lullaby," "Friday I'm In Love," "In Between Days," "Boys Don't Cry" and "Killing An Arab."
