Opeth brings the noise with winter tour dates, new DVD
Swedish death-metal outfit Opeth delivers its aggressive sound to North American clubs in January and February, paving the way for the release of the group's first DVD.
The winter tour, which also features fellow rockers DevilDriver and Moonspell , is scheduled to touch down in more than 30 cities, starting with a Jan. 20 gig in Edmonton, Alberta.
Meanwhile, Koch Entertainment has set a Feb. 24 release date for the new Opeth DVD, "Lamentations--Live at Shepherd's Bush Empire 2003." The two-hour show includes a performance of the group's 2003 album "Damnation" in its entirety, as well as other selections from the band's catalog.
Opeth issued two albums in 2003: "Deliverance" and "Damnation." "Damnation" spawned the group's first music video, a clip for the track "Windowpane" that gained airplay on MTV2's "Headbangers Ball."
The High Definition, widescreen format DVD features Stereo, 5.1 Surround and DTS audio options. Besides the concert film, it includes a 65-minute documentary on the making of the "Deliverance" and "Damnation" albums. The documentary features behind-the-scenes footage, studio outtakes, and interviews with the entire band and producer/collaborator Steven Wilson.
"What we tried to do with this release was to put out something that had the same quality and honesty of our studio albums," guitarist/vocalist Mikael kerfeldt said in a statement. "I truly feel that the DVD represents what we sound like in a live situation, and the documentary also offers insight on how it is recording an album, or albums in our case."
