Ozomatli lines up late-year theater dates

Latin-pop group Ozomatli has tacked a pair of multi-night engagements onto its current "Headz Up Fall Tour," which reunites the band with its original MC, Chali 2na.

The eight-member ensemble--which kicked off its current outing last month and continues it tomorrow night (11/5) in Missoula, MT--will entertain San Francisco audiences for four straight nights in mid-December (12/11-14) before moving south for three nights in West Hollywood, CA (12/18-20). Dates are shown below.

The group continues to support its fourth full-length studio release, "Don't Mess With the Dragon," which surfaced in April 2007 and cracked The Billboard 200. The set once again showcases Ozomatli's genre-bending mix of salsa, hip-hop, jazz and funk, and came at something of a turning point for the band's members as individuals, according to the group's online bio.

"There is more of a sense of personal responsibility on this one," said bassist Wil-Dog Abers on the group's website. "All of us are on this road of being more responsible in our own lives, becoming happier human beings, healthier in our lives outside of the band. In the process of making the record, people were really deep in the process of getting their lives together. It made a big difference."

Several songs from "Don't Mess With the Dragon" are streaming at Ozomatli's MySpace page.

The record follows 2004's "Street Signs," which scored the band its second Grammy Award for Best Latin Rock/Alternative Album. Ozomatli also released a concert CD/DVD, "Live at the Fillmore," in 2005.
