Pat Metheny Group gears up for 2005 tour behind new album

Jazz guitarist Pat Metheny and his five-man backing band have made New Year's resolutions to drop a new studio set in early 2005, and follow the release with a North American tour.

Metheny and company--pianist Lyle Mays, bassist Steve Rodby, trumpeter Cuong Vu, drummer Antonio Sanchez and harmonica player Gregoire Maret--take to the road behind the new set in mid-February, and are scheduled to wrap things up with a two-night stand in New York City on April 1-2. The itinerary is shown below.

Detailed ticketing information--including online pre-sale info--is posted at Metheny's website.

Titled "The Way Up," the group's new album is due out in January, according to Nonesuch Records; a specific release date hasn't been announced.

"The Way Up" is Menthey's follow-up to last year's acoustic set "One Quiet Night," which Metheny recorded at home alone with an acoustic guitar.
