Paul McCartney plays surprise mini-gig in New York

Paul McCartney played a surprise gig atop the Marquee of the Ed Sullivan Theater in midtown Manhattan Wednesday (7/15), where the ex-Beatle was on hand to tape a performance for CBS-TV's "Late Show With David Letterman."

The mini-concert, which drew thousands of fans to the street below, took place after Letterman interviewed McCartney during the program. From there, McCartney played two songs for broadcast--The Beatles' "Get Back" and McCartney side-group The Fireman's "Sing the Changes."

A 20-plus minute McCartney set followed that included renditions of "Coming Up," "Band on the Run," "Let Me Roll It," "Helter Skelter" and "Back in the USSR."

CBS's video of McCartney's mini-concert can be viewed below.
