Alt-metal act Powerman 5000 [ tickets ] is getting set for a return to the limelight, with a new single coming next month and a headlining tour currently in progress.

The group, which kicked off the outing Wednesday night (1/21) in Edelstein, IL, continues the trek tonight (1/22) in Maplewood, MN. The remaining 24 dates on the tour are listed below.

The group continues to work on a follow-up to 2006's "Destroy What You Enjoy." For at least the past two years, the group has claimed a new album is in the pipeline, but frontman/founder Spider One insists new material is on the way.

"I remember standing on the convention floor at the 2008 San Diego Comic Con," Spider said in a press statement. "I was surrounded by 10,000 or more freaks, geeks, and weirdos--all obsessed with robots, monsters and super heroes. I thought to myself, 'These are my people and Powerman 5000 is their band!' I went home completely energized, and immediately started work on the new record."

A new single, "Super Villain," was added to the band's MySpace page recently. The song is scheduled to go on sale as a digital download next month.
