R.E.M. to reissue 'Reckoning'
R.E.M. will mark the 25th anniversary of their second album, "Reckoning," with a two-disc deluxe edition of the classic record.
The set, which hits retailers June 23, will include a remastered version of the original album, as well as a bonus disc of a previously unreleased Chicago concert from the group's 1984 "Little America" tour. That performance features eight of the 10 tracks from "Reckoning," along with "Gardening at Night" from 1982's "Chronic Town" EP and "Radio Free Europe," "9-9" and "Sitting Still" from 1983's "Murmur." Two songs from later albums--"Driver 8" from 1985's "Fables of the Reconstruction" and "Hyena" from 1986's "Life's Rich Pageant"--also made the concert and subsequent bonus disc.
Along with the upcoming deluxe edition, "Reckoning" will also be reissued on audiophile-quality 180-gram vinyl in the original packaging, along with R.E.M.'s studio debut, "Murmur."
R.E.M released its debut album, "Murmur," in 1983, garnering critical acclaim as well as Rolling Stone magazine's Album of the Year title. The band's follow-up, "Reckoning," surfaced one year later and peaked at No. 27 on The Billboard 200.
In 2007, the first year the band was eligible, R.E.M.was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The group's most recent release, last year's "Accelerate," debuted at No. 2 on The Billboard 200, spending 18 weeks on the chart.
