Ralph Stanley maintains busy tour schedule
Bluegrass legend Ralph Stanley continues to keep busy on the road, lining up shows throughout the year with his Clinch Mountain Boys.
The 82-year-old Stanley continues to tour at a busy clip, lining up close to 40 dates through December at last check, including a slate of appearances later this month kicking off April 23 in Boulder, CO. Details are below.
In 2006, the clawhammer-banjo master and tenor vocalist celebrated his 60th year in a music career that dates back to 1946, when he and his brother, Carter Stanley, formed the first incarnation of the Clinch Mountain Boys. After Carter passed away in 1966, Stanley continued on with a variety of other bandmates, including Larry Sparks, Roy Lee Centers, and Charlie Sizemore, as well as his own son, Ralph Stanley II.
The elder Stanley has released more than 170 albums, according to his website, including his most recent studio effort, 2007's "Mountain Preacher's Child," which rose to No. 9 on Billboard's Top Bluegrass Albums chart.
In 2006, Stanley was awarded the National Medal of the Arts. His autobiography, "Man of Constant Sorrow," coauthored with Eddie Dean, hit bookstores earlier this month.
