Mexican hitmakers RBD set more US dates
Mexican pop stars RBD continue to push their first English language album, "Rebels," with more tour dates in the western United States.
RBD--Anahi, Dulce, Maite, Alfonso, Christian and Christopher (the band members all go by only their first names)--will perform in Texas, California and Las Vegas in early February. Details are listed below.
RBD is no stranger to touring the United States. During its last tour, the group sold out New York's Madison Square Garden and Los Angeles' Memorial Coliseum.
"Rebels" debuted at No. 1 on the US Latin charts and No. 1 in Mexico, Brazil and Chile. The sextet has sold more than 20 million albums worldwide, including two million in the United States.
RBD originated in 2004 as a plot line on the Latin soap opera "Rebelde." Taking a cue from fiction, the group became reality. Their debut album, "Rebelde," launched radio hits in Mexico such as "Rebelde," "Solo Quedate en Silencio," "Salvame" and "Un Poco de Tu Amor." The album was recently designated diamond for sales over 500,000 in Mexico.
"Rebelde" wrapped in summer 2005 as Mexico's longest-running telenovela (soap opera) with 440 episodes, which continue to run in the United States, Asia, Indonesia and a dozen other countries.
"Everything that's happening with RBD since the beginning has been a surprise," Alfonso recently told LiveDaily. "I am very, very happy with what's happening in the US. The only thing we have to do is work really hard, especially because of the opportunity that we have so far.
"There's a lot of traveling in this business. Something I enjoy a lot is traveling, meeting new people, new cultures--and I think that's great."
