RBD reschedules US dates for early next year

Citing a desire to offer fans a "much more complete show," Latin pop group RBD has postponed the remaining dates on its current US tour leg until February of next year.

The six-member Mexican ensemble--Anahi, Dulce, Maite, Alfonso, Christian and Christopher (the band members all go by only their first names)--said in a press statement that it needed time to work songs from the its forthcoming new album, "Empezar desde Cero," into its live act, as well as promote the US debut of its television sitcom "RBD: La Familia" on Spanish-language network Univision.

Affected dates include last week's scheduled appearances in Phoenix, along with six California shows, including tomorrow night's (10/19) planned concert in San Jose. Ticket holders can obtain a refund at the point of purchase for affected shows. Details and exact dates for the make-up shows will be released shortly, according to the group's website.

"Empezar desde Cero," scheduled for worldwide release Nov. 20, follows RBD's English-language debut, "Rebels," which debuted at No. 1 on the US Latin charts and No. 1 in Mexico, Brazil and Chile. The new album's first single, "Inalcanzable," is already in rotation on Spanish-language radio in the US and elsewhere. The new set was produced by Carlos Lara and Armando Avila and recorded in Mexico City and Los Angeles.

RBD originated in 2004 as a plot line on the Latin soap opera "Rebelde." Taking a cue from fiction, the group became reality. Their debut album, "Rebelde," launched radio hits in Mexico such as "Rebelde," "Solo Quedate en Silencio," "Salvame" and "Un Poco de Tu Amor." The album was recently designated diamond for sales of more than 500,000 copies in Mexico.

"Rebelde" wrapped in summer 2005 as Mexico's longest-running telenovela (soap opera) with 440 episodes, which continue to run in the United States, Asia, Indonesia and a dozen other countries.
