Blue Rodeo launches Canadian tour to promote literacy
Roots-rock outfit Blue Rodeo will launch an extensive Canadian tour just after the New Year in support of the Canadian literacy initiative Canwest Raise-a-Reader.
The quintet--comprised of singers/guitarists Jim Cuddy and Greg Keelor, bassist Bazil Donovan, drummer Glenn Milchem and multi-instrumentalist Bob Egan--will begin the lengthy journey with a two-night stand Jan. 5-6 in Calgary. The 31-date excursion works its way from western Canada to the east, wrapping up March 12 in Hamilton, Ontario. Details are included below.
Part of the proceeds from ticket sales on the tour will benefit literacy groups throughout Canada via the year-round Canwest Raise-a-Reader initiative. Country Inns and Suites by Carlson, the concert series' exclusive sponsor, will also donate additional funding to the cause. The series, which launched in 2007, has included Michael Buble, James Taylor, Anne Murray and Jann Arden, among others.
Blue Rodeo is touring in support of its forthcoming release, "The Things We Left Behind," which will hit Canadian shelves on Tuesday (11/24). The new set will mark the band's 12th studio effort and first since 2007's "Small Miracles."
Since its 1987 inception, the Canadian band has sold more than four million records and won five Juno Awards for Group of the Year.
"I think that's the testament--to really do it for a living," Cuddy said in a statement posted on the band's website. "Not just live the life of a popular band but to actually do music for a living."
