Robin Thicke gets ready for 'Something Else'

R&B/soulman Robin Thicke will hit the road next month for a short run of dates to preview material from his forthcoming album, "Something Else."

The singer/songwriter is currently scheduled to play eight shows Aug. 9-18, including five in California. He'll also hit clubs and theaters in Las Vegas; Tempe, AZ; and Englewood, CO. Details are listed below.

Thicke's third solo album, "Something Else," is set to roll out Sept. 9 and the lead single, "Magic," is already climbing the R&B/hip-hop charts. A sample of the song is streaming at the performer's MySpace page.

"Something Else" was produced by Thicke and longtime collaborator Pro-Jay, and unlike 2006's "The Evolution of Robin Thicke," the new record features no guest appearances, according to Billboard. Thicke told the magazine he would describe his new material as "classic Philly, Motown and '70s black disco meets the creativity of The Beatles and Bob Dylan."

With "Evolution," the blue-eyed soul singer reached the top spot on the R&B/hip-hop albums chart, achieved platinum status and scored a No. 1 hit with "Lost Without U." Already a Grammy-winning songwriter and producer, the set marked Thicke's big breakthrough as a performer.

The multifaceted artist--the son of "Growing Pains" sitcom dad Alan Thicke and singer/soap star Gloria Loring--began writing and producing music at age 16 with no formal training. He has since amassed dozens of gold and platinum albums with the likes of Usher, Mary J. Blige, Michael Jackson and Christina Aguilera, according to his bio.

Thicke has also been keeping busy with film scoring, writing a novel and a screenplay, and he's just finishing his first poetry book, according to Billboard.
