Rodrigo y Gabriela cleared for US tour

Rodrigo Sanchez, one half of the Mexican acoustic guitar duo Rodrigo y Gabriela , has cleared his visa hurdle and will be able to take part in the pair's upcoming US tour.

The act, which also includes Gabriela Quintero, will kick off its outing April 14 in Universal City, CA, as part of radio station KCRW's "Sounds Eclectic" evening. They will then go on to play several East Coast dates that were rescheduled following Sanchez's visa uncertainties.

The tour will hit 15 cities--including an April 29 slot at the Coachella music festival in Indio, CA, and a June 14 appearance at the Bonnaroo festival in Manchester, TN--and is scheduled to keep the duo in the country through the first of July.

The pair released their self-titled second studio album in the US last October. The John Leckie-produced (Radiohead, Stone Roses) set features guest contributions from violinist Roby Lakatos.

Sanchez and Quintero first met as teenagers in Mexico City. Both dedicated heavy metal fans, they played together for a time in the metal group Tierra Acida before moving to Europe in hopes of expanding their repertoire. The pair released their first album, "Re-Foc," in 2003.
