Ryan Cabrera tours 'Moon' this month

Reinvented pop-rocker Ryan Cabrera is set to return to the road this month for a string of dates along the East Coast.

The singer/songwriter/guitarist will launch the trek Jan. 21 in Syracuse, NY, and hit clubs and theaters in Massachusetts, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Indiana and Maryland before wrapping with a performance in New York City. The itinerary is listed below.

Cabrera returned to the music scene last year with a newfound independence and a new, self-financed record on his own label. "The Moon Under Water" surfaced last May and broke into The Billboard 200. A few songs from the album are streaming at Cabrera's MySpace page.

The Texas prodigy shot to fame in 2004 as a young, blond-tipped popster, selling more than a million records with the help of Top 20 hits including "On the Way Down" and "True" from his debut album, "Take It All Away." His sophomore set, "You Stand Watching," spawned the Top 40 pop single "Shine On."

Now in his mid-20s, Cabrera has grown into a more mature artist with his own ideas--ideas that apparently didn't mesh with his former major label, Atlantic Records. The performer broke ties with that company and spent about a year and a half writing and recording "The Moon Under Water" for his own Frolic Room Records. He admitted that breaking away from the music industry machine is a risky move, but said it feels right.

"It's a way bigger risk, and it could end up just backfiring on me," Cabrera explained in his bio. "But at the end of the day, I figured if I didn't make the record I want to make now, I'd just be miserable for the rest of my life.

"At this point, it's all about the music," he added. "My goal all along has been to have a career in music, end of story."
