Serj Tankian Launches Two Activism Websites
System of a Down's Serj Tankian has launched two new websites dealing with political and social issues including the abolishment of the electoral college, according to a press release.
The website www.electthedead.com has been designed to raise awareness and inspire activism for five political ideas Tankian feels strongly about: the elimination of the Electoral College, caps on corporate contributions to candidates, tax reform, instant runoff voting during elections and the abolishment of Washington DC's "K Street" lobbying firms. The site, unveiled Feb. 20, invites visitors who agree with his issues to sign their names on a list as a show of support. If enough support is generated, the list will be presented to politicians along with a request to pose the issues as national referendums with the goal of adoption by the Federal government. "This is our democracy and we need to take a hold of it, revolutionize it, and bring it back to what it was intended to be by the founding fathers," Tankian said in a statement.
The second site Tankian launched, www.skyisover.net, is an informational haven for eco-awareness that features links to environmental organizations including Greenpeace and the Sierra Club. The website also provides links to other sites that promote social awareness such as Amnesty International.
Tankian, who will headline the second stage at the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival Apr. 25 in Indio, CA, is currently on the road with the Foo Fighters.
